Sketch of Morning Glory
The children of the wispy stars are twisting
The ivy of the morning glory resembles an x-ray of a human heart
So I’ll try to grow morning glories on my heart
Late last summer
On a sunny day, on the rooftop of a three-story building
I was drinking coffee with brown sugar chocolate with Hana
I laid down on the mat and slept under the sky
She took some morning glory seeds and gave them to me
I was reading Richard Brautigan’s “The abortion: an historical romance 1966”
I was afraid of what would come next if sprouts would grow on my stomach
At the end of this spring, I planted morning glory seeds
I bought a small planter that would fit in my small apartment’s balcony
I prepared soil and pumice stone and planted the seeds
At first they didn’t germinate
One day I opened the window and there were five sprouts
With young, tiny leaves slowly dividing and growing taller and taller
Gradually they became my family
Before I knew it, the balcony fence was covered with morning glory ivy
Like my Guardian Curtain
I loved the light purple flowers that bloomed one by one
I watered them every day
I worried that the morning glories would wither and die if I left the house for a week
I feel like each day is like a series of losses
but it’s so precious to keep changing day after day
I can hear the sound of my heart quietly now
Morning Glory looks like the shape of my life
Now you’re already in the harvest season
Your colors are fading
But you still have so much to tell
…
